Mary Alice Reporting –

As funding allows over fifteen Dover streets will see areas of paving this year.

The city budgeted $1.1 million for the roadway improvements that will include W. 22nd and 21st streets, W 11th, and Dover Avenue, from Slingluff to 12th.

Service Director Dave Douglas says Dover’s auditor and mayor made road work a priority with many streets in need of asphalt.

“Hopefully we can gain some momentum this year and get most of the north end paved this year and looking at moving to the south side of the city next year.”

Douglas notes that while not heavily traveled, Progress Street is an area that has needed paved for a while.

“There’s a lot of industry and business out there so we want to try to get that paved. That is a substantial amount cause it’s a very long street for us. Going to be working a lot in some of the developments and then also off of Wooster Avenue on the west side of town to try to get some of those streets in decent shape, anywhere from 10th Street all the way up to 23rd Street.”

No start date was available as a meeting with the contractor must happen first.

Douglas adds that the city will perform a lot of infrastructure work this year as they see businesses move in.
