Dover officials say they’re just about done with their share of the work to bring a large manufacturing facility to the city’s north side.

Now they’re just waiting for the delayed opening of the Schaeffler EV component factory.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe yesterday announced the completion of four major north-end construction projects necessary to provide infrastructure and utilities for the $230 million dollar, 320,000-square-foot plant. The latest project was the reconstruction and paving of Crown Road.

Late last year, Schaeffler announced the factory’s opening would be delayed until next year due to changing market conditions in the electric vehicle industry.

The delay has coincided with reports of a sharp decline in electric vehicle sales in the U.S.

The city infrastructure projects cost about $3 million, which Gunnoe says will be paid for with state and county grants along with reimbursements through a TIF agreement with the Schaeffler.
