Dr. Ronald Otha Wells, 72, of Dennison, Ohio, was called home to the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, from his home, after a brief illness. Born August 21, 1949, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Cyrus Otha and Frances (Baranowski) Wells.
Ron grew up in Follansbee, West Virginia, and was a graduate of Follansbee High School before earning his Bachelor’s degree at West Liberty University, and later, his Master’s degree and Doctorate from West Virginia University. Ron was a much-loved educator and administrator until his retirement as the Director of Special Education with the State Department of Education in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He will also be remembered for his work with Vision Quest for which he had been the Superintendent. His diligent efforts made a difference in many students’ lives and their ability to earn their high school diploma. Ron enjoyed being active in the life of his church for many years and was an avid train enthusiast.
On November 23, 1982, he married Suzanne Kathryn (Settimio) Wells who survives him, along with her daughter, Nicole (Andy) Weigle, and grandchildren, Dalton, Rylie, and Jaxon Litzinger. Ron is also survived by his sister, Deloris Prantil, several nieces and nephews, and a number of cousins, including Doll and Chuck Zatta, Theresa and Bill Marino, and Patty McClain.
According to Ron’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation. A celebration of his life will be held on a future date. This website will be updated when details are confirmed. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations honoring his memory may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Most of all, Ron would want all who mourn his loss to hold on to his last piece of advice, “Remember the joy!”, because he truly treasured all the joy that his friends and loved ones brought him throughout his life.
