The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is making the transition to wintertime at its lakes and parks.
Director of marketing and communication Adria Bergeron says water drawdowns begin this month at the MWCD reservoirs with different start dates.
The process takes between five and six weeks to complete, depending on the lake, and the purpose is to provide increased flood-storage capacity for winter snowmelt and spring rains.
She says the typical drawdown depth is between five and eight feet at the reservoirs or it can go down a little more if needed to complete shoreline stabilization projects.
Bergerson says shoreline projects are planned this winter at Seneca and Atwood lakes. The Atwood project includes stabilizing a significant landslide near one of the campground areas approximately 250 feet in length. The work though will extend a total of 770 feet.
