Registration is underway for the Dress-A-Child program, which provides back-to-school shopping gift cards to children from income-eligible families.

Program Treasurer Becky Mastin says families can register during scheduled sessions.

Applicants should bring a photo ID, proof of household income for everyone earning money in the home, and guardianship or custody paperwork if needed. Most families will find out if they qualify before leaving their appointment. Registration will be held Thursday at Uhrichsville Presbyterian Church, and next Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. Registration hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on each date.

Last year, Dress-A-Child helped more than 1,050 children. Mastin says organizers hope to raise about $100,000 again this year to provide each child with a $100 shopping gift card.

Mastin addss the program has raised just under $90,000 so far. Donations will be accepted through the end of July. Checks payable to Dress-A-Child can be mailed to 1210 Winkler Drive in Dover.

Mastin points out the program, which began in 1971, is also looking for volunteers who can help translate for Spanish-speaking families during registration.
