A driver caught speeding ended up spending the weekend in jail after he attempted to flee from the police.

State Highway Patrol Sergeant Clinton Armstrong says a trooper recorded the vehicle going 91 in a 70 on 77 north near 250 in New Philadelphia.

Instead of pulling over, the driver kept going at speeds around 83 miles per hour. Armstrong notes that the man drove for around six miles, exiting at Schneider’s Crossing Road in Dover and eventually stopping near the North Wooster Avenue intersection.

The 26-year-old suspect from Canton told troopers he was looking for a safe place to pull over. Armstrong says the driver didn’t have any drugs or weapons.

The driver was arraigned Monday morning on a felony count of fleeing and eluding. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
