A semi-truck that crashed into a pole created a messy situation in more than one way in Strasburg on Labor Day afternoon.

Chief Randy Haugh says an Illinois truck driver southbound on Wooster Avenue told police he was on his way to Eagle Truck Stop in New Philadelphia when he went off the right side of the road, striking and splintering the pole in the 700 block at about 1:30 pm. No one was injured.

The crash had Wooster Avenue temporarily closed between Zeltman avenue and 12th street so repairs could be made, sending vehicles onto the side streets through town.

Haugh says the truck driver also told police he had been reaching to his right for a bottle of water at the time of the crash.

The driver was cited for operating a motor vehicle without reasonable control.
