Get rid of unwanted or expired prescription medications during Saturday’s Drug Take Back event.

Empower Tusc’s drug prevention committee chair Jeff Neidig says Tuscarawas County Sheriff deputy’s will be at two local hospitals.

“At the south entrance of Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and at the main entrance of Trinity Health System Twin City Medical Center. That is available from 10am to 2pm. You can stop by and dispose of unused and expired medications.”

Neidig says participants can leave the pills in the bottle or pour them into a plastic baggie to bring for safe disposal.

“The pills are all that we need really, cause that’s what’s going to go directly to the incinerator. In the state of Ohio, they have to be accepted and controlled by law enforcement, so it’s always going to be in their hands.”

The event can help keep potentially dangerous medications out of the hands of children and reduce misuse and theft of drugs from homes.

“At Empower Tusc we really look at three pronged approach for medication use and one is safe use, second is safe storage, and third is safe disposal. We need to secure them safely but when it comes time to dispose of them get rid of those ones that you don’t need so we don’t get into the wrong hands of our children, youth, or even an adult taking it incorrectly.”

Outside of Saturday’s scheduled event, prescription medications can be dropped off at any time in the lobby of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s office.
