Dover is moving ahead with new regulations for electric scooter riders.
Safety Director Bob Everett says his E-Scooter Committee met and has some possible solutions to the growing problem of young scooter operators ignoring traffic laws and nearly causing accidents. Everett says one of those solutions involves helmet mandates for anyone under 18 to wear a helmet when operating an e-scooter.
He expects to introduce more regulations and recommendations soon.
“Some parts may seem a little tough, but we’ve got to slow down these scooters and make sure they obey traffic laws. We cannot sit idle and have someone get seriously injured, or worse, and do nothing.”
Everett says it is up to parents to make sure their children know the rules of the road before operating a scooter.
