The Ohio Department of Transportation has had its salt trucks out for the first time this season.

Some crews in east-central Ohio’s District 11 started at midnight to monitor the roads and treat where needed as the snow falls.

Public information officer Lauren Borell says it’s also time for drivers to make sure their cars are ready for the winter by checking fluid levels, tires and battery, and having an emergency kit.

None of Monday’s snow has been sticking to the roads so far, but ODOT reminds drivers to still be careful on the bridges and overpasses as they tend to freeze first.
