The Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Office is ready for early in-person voting to begin on Tuesday.
Board of Elections Director David Johnson says this is for the May 5th Primary, which features party contested races and several local issues.
“This is a nomination for the General Election. The only people that would be elected this election would be the state central committee and the county central committee. You have your governor and lieutenant governor, attorney general, state auditor, secretary of state, treasurer, justice of supreme courts, senators, representatives of congress 6th district, and state representative 51st district. There’s also a central committee both state and local for the democrats.”
Issues on the ballot include New Philadelphia City Schools’ 1.5% earned‑income tax for residents, continuing indefinitely. The Dover Public Library is seeking voter approval for current expenses. Other renewal levies also appear for the Joint Union Cemetery and for the Village of Strasburg’s fire and emergency equipment. The Village of Tuscarawas is requesting an additional tax for current expenses, and Newcomerstown is proposing a 0.5% income tax for 10 years to fund road and storm‑sewer repairs and maintenance.
Johnson says early voting is available from 8am to 5pm. Voters will need to bring a valid form of identification, like a current driver’s license or passport.
“A big thing for voters, I would encourage everyone to visit our website and look at their ballot before they vote. If they need any help with anything give us a call. Our office number is 330-343-8819.”
The Board of Elections Office is located at 933 E. High Avenue in New Philadelphia.
