Edna M. Smith, 89, of Strasburg passed away at Hennis Care Center on Thursday, August 10, 2023 following a long period of declining health.
Born in Dover Township on May 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and C. Mae Ralph Yackey.
Edna married the love of her life, Gary A. Smith, on May 5, 1957. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 31, 2023. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Colleen Smith Espenschied; brother, Clyde Yackey; three sisters, Edyth McCaslin, Elizabeth Yackey, and Dalene Domer.
Edna was a talented homemaker. She loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. She was an active member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, helped with the finance committee, and Women’s Group. She was also an original member of the Bona Mater Club. Edna and Gary were supporters of Strasburg schools and sports. She also loved and never missed attending any of her grandsons’ sports and school activities over the years.
She leaves behind her son; Kevin (wife, JJ) of Cambridge; along with her grandsons, Ian and Adam Smith.
Friends are invited to call at the Strasburg United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev.
