Eleanor Ann Brown – July 3, 2024

Eleanor Ann Brown, known to everybody as “Nan”, 100, of Newark, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in the home that she made. Eleanor was born February 29, 1924, in Newcomerstown, to the late George Booth and Frona (Bliss) Temple.

Eleanor was a 1942 high school graduate of Newcomerstown High School. She then graduated from Bliss College in 1943 with a degree in Junior Accountancy and Shorthand. Eleanor worked at Moore Enameling Company in West Lafayette, before she became a permanent full time homemaker. She was very crafty, enjoyed card making, crocheting, and sewing. She loved volunteering, was a Brownie troop leader, and helped at the school, even through her 80’s in her granddaughter’s classroom. Eleanor was also a member of the Newcomerstown Eastern Star. Bret became her caretaker for the last 10 years with Jennifer’s support.

On September 15, 1946, she married her husband, Daniel H. Brown, who passed away February 20, 2006. Eleanor is survived by her grandchildren, Bret A. Brown of Newark, Jennifer E. (Steven) Ludgate of Pickerington, and Danielle L. (Billy) Simpson of Newark; great grandchildren, Douglas and Rory. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Danna Jo Johnson, who passed away on April 26, 2007.

A graveside service for Eleanor will be held on Saturday July 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at West Lawn Cemetery. Burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, the American Ex-Prisoners of War, or Licking County Aging Partners.
