Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Allensworth, 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia. Born July 8, 1933 in Wainwright, she was the last surviving child of the late William Howard and Marie Josephine (Nicolodi) Toth, having been preceded in death by her siblings, Delores Toth, Nancy Roth, Barbara Lovell, Ted Toth, and Bill Toth.

Betty was a lifelong area resident and a 1951 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She had most recently been a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia and previously been a member at the former St. Theresa Catholic Church in Wainwright where she had been active in the Altar Society. She was employed as a nurses’ aide at Union Hospital in Dover for a number of years and had also been the Postmistress at the Wainwright Post Office. She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed supporting all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren through their various sporting events.

In 1953, Betty married David H. Allensworth, Sr. with whom she enjoyed 33 years of marriage until his passing on December 31, 1986. They are survived by their son, David (Paula) Allensworth, Jr.; grandsons, Andy (Kelsy) and Matt (Maddy) Allensworth; great-grandchildren, Solomon, Isaiah, Lydia, and Ellie; and many nieces and nephews. Betty will also be missed by her dear friends, Jean “Punky” Sharkey, Dottie Shott, and Cilta Griffith. She was preceded in death by two close friends, Maxine Sciarini-Riley and Margie Charnock-Lee.

According to Betty’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public service, and she will be interred beside her beloved husband at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia.
