Nick McWilliams reporting – With Christmas fast approaching, Empower Tusc is advocating for a safe and educational holiday for all.

Drunk driving crashes claim hundreds of lives nationwide during the tail-end of the year, all of which are preventable, according to Coordinator Jodi Salvo.

Planning ahead, never getting behind the wheel after drinking, and utilizing a designated driver can help keep the holidays safe and accident-free for all.

Additionally, Christmas can serve as a good time to discuss responsible habits and sound decision-making with children and younger family members.

Making a pledge to say no to underage drinking and having a healthy lifestyle should be a part of that conversation.

Model behaviors can go a long way in a child’s development, including drinking responsibly, and showing a balance in choices during holiday gatherings.

For party hosts, offer non-alcoholic beverages and serve plenty of food, making sure that no one under the age of 21 consumes alcohol.
