Mary Alice Reporting – Four agencies worked together to successfully recue a large bird of prey at Atwood Lake.

A resident noticed a struggling osprey in a tree and alerted authorities.

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District reports that their rangers, Atwood Park staff, Dellroy fire department, and DH Land Clearing responded to find the distressed bird entangled in fishing line high up in a tree.

Following the removal of line, the osprey was transported to Stark Park’s Wildlife Conservation Center where it will be cared for to ensure its health and well-being.

The center’s supervisor noted, in the release, that the raptor has a swollen leg but can put weight on it, which is a positive sign. With continued improvement, he will be released backed to the wild soon.

MWCD reminds those at the park or fishing that line disposal bins are located at the public launch ramps and various locations at each lake. Residents are also encouraged to report any wildlife in distress to authorities.
