Ernestine Miller Kehl, 99, of New Philadelphia died peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, March 19th.

She is survived by her children, Corbin Russell Miller (Kathryn), Kay Solomon (Steven) and Marilyn Graef (David); and grandchildren Russell Graef (Sarah), Rachael Silard (Andrew), Mathew Graef (Kimberly), Martin Graef (Amy Jo) and Mark Solomon (Amy). She has five great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and their families, and numerous friends to whom her family is so grateful for their many years of affection and kindness.

Ernestine had an abundant love of family, faith, charity, laughter, friendship, antiques, books, and gardening. Her handmade rugs can be found in the homes of family and friends across the country. She maintained her independence and did things her own way throughout her life.

Ernestine grew up in Huntington, WV and graduated from Huntington High School and Huntington Business School. She worked for Field Enterprises, then became a successful Realtor in the 1970’s and was chosen as Salesperson and Broker of the Year; and in 2019 was named to the Realtors Hall of Fame. She was one of the first women General Appraisers in Ohio and continued to work as an appraiser for 30 years until she retired at age 91.

Ernestine was a founding member of the Heritage Home Association, helped to start the Women’s Shelter, was a church trustee and was recognized for her community work with the Zeisberger-Heckwelder Award. She restored her historic home on South Broadway, lived there almost fifty years, and was given the Heroes of Preservation Award.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, husbands Corbin R. Miller and Carl Kehl, and a grandson. Calling hours are Thursday,  March 23, 2023  10-11am at Toland- Herzig Funeral Home in Dover, with service to follow and interment at Dover Burial Park.
