Ervin Swartzentruber, age 86, of the New Dawn Retirement Community, Dover, and a long-time resident of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, February 12, in New Dawn.

Born July 23, 1936, in Millersburg, he was a son of the late Enos and Nellie Henney Swartzentruber. Ervin graduated from Millersburg High School, and soon afterward was employed by Union Hospital in Dover, where he worked for 53 years, retiring in 2009. He married the former Peggy Lou Lehman on November 3, 1962; the couple had two daughters and shared very nearly 51 years of marriage before Peggy’s passing on December 13, 2013.

Ervin was a member of The Summit (formerly the Foursquare Gospel Church) in Dover. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, camping, mushroom-hunting, as well as looking for arrowheads.

He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Carol (Bill) Nedrow of Dover, and Sue Raber of Robertsville; his grandson, Zack Nedrow also of Dover; his sisters, Lucille (Abe) Miller of Wooster, and Betty (Marion) Stutzman of New Philadelphia; his brothers, Owen (Clara) and Larry (Barb) Swartzentruber, both also of Wooster; his nieces and nephews; and the many friends he made over the years.

Besides his parents, and his wife, Peggy, Ervin was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Raber and Marie Garber; and his brother, Glen Swartzentruber.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Thursday, February 16, 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 17, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home; Pastors David Wing and Rob Coburn will officiate.
