Eva Jane Shonk, age 85, known as “Jane” to her loved ones, passed away on March 25, 2024, in New Philadelphia, Ohio. 

She was born on June 23, 1938, in Jackson Mills, West Virginia, to her parents Clifton D. Reed and Freda A. Nickolson. 

On June 10, 1967, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Shonk, who preceded her in death on December 9, 2020.  In addition to her parents and Kenneth, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Julia Bickford; brother, Bill Reed, and grandson, Cory George.

During her lifetime, Jane dedicated many years of service as an inspector at the Timken Company. Her commitment and work ethic left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Beyond her professional endeavors, Jane had a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy to her life. She found solace in painting, exploring new destinations through travel, and listening to the soul-stirring melodies of country music.  She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio.  

She also leaves behind three daughters; Holly Jo (Jim) George of Sherrodsville, Kathy Jane (Mark) Grimm of Bergholz, Carol Ann (Don) Wardell of Newcomerstown; her brother, Nelson (Kathy) Reed of New Philadelphia; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her niece, Donnetta Bickford; nephews, Donald K. Bickford II, Tom Reed, and Billy Reed; along with several special cousins.

Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A celebration of Jane’s life will take place at the funeral home Friday at 12:00 with Pastor Shane Roberson officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Massillon.  To sign an online guestbook for Jane, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website.
