Evelyn J. Simpson Waite, 97, of New Philadelphia passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, in the New Dawn Retirement Community.
Born on June 4, 1925, in Dover she was a daughter of the late Harold and Lucy Abel Davidson. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her first husband, Otmar P. “Slim” Simpson, and her second husband, John “Jack” Waite; son, Daniel Simpson; sister, Beverly Moore, and two great-grandsons, Caleb Mann and Raymond Daniels.
Evelyn was a dedicated homemaker, who also loved being a Foster Grandparent for 32 years within the New Philadelphia and surrounding school systems. She was also a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Auxiliary, New Philadelphia Eagles Auxiliary, and the Uhrichsville Army-Navy Auxiliary.
A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Evelyn is survived by her children, Edward Simpson, Wesley (Beth) Simpson both of New Philadelphia, Thomma May (John) Casper of Arkansas; brother, Roland (Betty) Davidson of Dover; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 9th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Dr. Rev. Terry Faris officiating. The family will be greeting friends on Tuesday from 10 to 11:00 am.
