10,000 Acres with Doug Swift sponsored by Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum

July 9

10,000 Acres is an interactive, multimedia documentary exploring the land we now know as The Wilds. Producer and director Doug Swift will join them on Thursday, July 9th at 6:30 pm at the JHM to introduce the project and share selected clips. From the mound builders to the pioneers, farmers, miners and conservationists who shaped this landscape, each era represents a chapter in Ohio history and – and in the continuing American story. Taken as a whole the story is humbling. Ways of life were lost, communities changed and the land itself was transformed. This project remembers and honors those histories while inviting us to reflect on what those changes mean. As we celebrate the 250th birthday of our nation, this patch of land in our own backyard offers a powerful microcosm of the larger American experience. Doug Swift is a filmmaker, poet and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Journalism and English Departments at Denison University. For more about Doug’s work, visit: www.dougswiftstories.com. The JHM is located in Historic Roscoe Village at 300 N Whitewoman Street, Coshocton.
