The importance of culture in the workplace was the focus of the final webinar hosted by the Ohio Farm Bureau.
It coincides with a new collection of labor resources created by Ohio Farm Bureau and Nationwide to help farmers position their business for success with a strong labor force.
Michael Hoffman, founder and owner of Igniting Performance Inc., says there are many different facets of culture.
“Culture is the things that we allow and the things we tolerate. It answers the question What’s it like here? What’s it like being here? What’s it like working here? And that is culture. It’s that feeling that you have by just being a part of it.”
Mark Ruff owns and operates Ruff Farms in Pickaway County, and he says one of the keys for his farm to create a successful culture is to look at his employees as more than just a hired hand.
“It’s really hard to put your arms around what culture really means because it’s so different for everywhere and everybody you talk to. But I think for ours, it starts with those core values of respecting who they are, what they bring to the table, where they want to go in life and what they want to do and appreciate what they have to offer. And then, you know, how do we make them better as we make ourselves better.”
