Thursday evening, New Philadelphia police received a 911 call reporting an accident at the corner of 7th Street SW and Bank Lane.
Captain Rocky Dusenberry explains the fatal crash involved one vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Buckeye Career Center student, also from Indian Valley.
“He would have been coming down 7th Street south passing the old Damon’s Pizza [now Osaka Carryout] and then there’s a sharp turn to the left that would become Bank Lane and he went straight right there.”
The car hit the cement barrier of the UPS building.
“That is below the actual loading dock. The loading dock is up higher from a semi and the car hit below the actual opening.”
Dusenberry says the investigation into a cause continues.
“We don’t know what caused him to keep going straight instead of turning left. What really have no idea what the issue was. We have no idea.”
Police are waiting for results of an autopsy.
