Mary Alice Reporting –

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate a Wednesday crash that claimed the life of a Newcomerstown man.

Law enforcement responded at 7pm to State Route 258 regarding a two-vehicle crash that involved a Mercury Grand Marquis and a horse drawn buggy.

New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Kyle Shirer explains that the buggy rider, 52-year-old Menno Troyer was pronounced deceased on scene. The crash report indicates that Benjamin Henry was eastbound and drove across the center line, striking the westbound buggy.

“The driver of the other vehicle, Mr. Henry, had fled the scene and was later located about a mile from the scene by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office. From my understanding, his vehicle was found in a ditch.”

The 68-year-old of Port Washington was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence. He remains incarcerated in the Tuscarawas County jail pending further review from the prosecutor’s office.

Assisting troopers and deputies were members of Newcomerstown Fire and Tri-County Ambulance.
