Nick McWilliams reporting – The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a Monday afternoon crash claimed the lives of three people.

According to OSP’s New Philadelphia Post, the incident occurred around 4:13 p.m. on State Route 542, in Monroe Township, in Carroll County.

A vehicle driven by 55-year-old Douglas Mackey, of West Virginia, went left-of-center, striking a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Randy Simmons, from East Liverpool.

Both cars went off the road, traveling down a ditch before coming to a rest.

Simmons, along with two passengers, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, sustained fatal injuries from the incident.

The Dellroy Fire Department, Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies, Carroll County EMA, Regional EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
