Nick McWilliams reporting – The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported an increase in the number of fatalities over the Memorial Day reporting period.

The four-day span ran from May 26th to May 29th, with 22 crashes resulting in 23 deaths, the highest total since 20 people were killed in 2020.

Only one of the fatalities was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, while eight of the 10 motorcycle-related deaths came without the use of a helmet.

Nearly 20,000 traffic enforcement contacts were made by troopers over the holiday weekend, with almost 400 impaired-driving arrests, and 2,800 safety belt citations issued.

All drivers are encouraged to report suspicious activity on Ohio highways by dialing #677 to be connected to the nearest OSP post.
