Fe Fe Bartles, 97, of Gnadenhutten died Monday morning on September 9, 2024, in Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehab under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
She was born at home in Uhrichsville on January 23, 1927, to the late Gustavus and Erra (Vamvakedes) Morris. Fe graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1944. As a young lady, FeFe enjoyed being a “soda jerk” in Uhrichsville, serving the people and making sodas. She also loved her job at Ohio Bell until it closed. She made many friends there and they remained close throughout her life. Her most treasured job was being a housewife in Gnaden where she would reside until she became ill. Many great memories were made here, and a lot of love was shared.
FeFe married the late Gilbert Bartles on 9-12-65 and took on a very important role as a wife as well as a mother. She never missed a beat by taking this responsibility very seriously and carried this on throughout her life. There were many lessons taught. FeFe would teach the family about her Greek background, about her church, and even some of the language. She always made sure that they were well taken care of and loved doing it. Some of FeFe’s greatest joys were in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. At their sporting events she was their biggest cheerleader, encouraging the girls as well as their teammates. Of course, she would from time to time have to school up the refs if she felt they needed some advice or corrections. She definitely was a “Grandma” to all of the kids. At times you would find her in the huddle giving them a pep talk!! Fe also loved to go on gambling trips with her friends. She enjoyed many bus trips and even made the big trip to Las Vegas!
In Fe’s later years she also became a caretaker of her mother and her brother Tosso! She was such a wonderful daughter and sister to both of these important people in her life and once again took this job very seriously, making sure that their needs were met until their passing.
Surviving are Fe’s children: John Bartles and Amy Miller both of Gnadenhutten; four grandchildren: Sarah (Michael) Cady, Jen (Josh) Simmerman, Jonathon Bartles, and Jessica Bartles; and four great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Garrett, and Tyler Cady, and Josh Bartles.
Along with her parents and husband, Fe is preceded in death by her brother Ernest “Tosso” Morris.
