The Ohio Department of Commerce is promoting a streamlined online system where Ohioans can search for missing dollars as part of a push during National Unclaimed Funds Month in February.
Outreach Supervisor Susie Wagner says unclaimed funds can include money from old bank accounts, uncashed checks, utility deposits, or wages that were never collected. She says you can check for yourself at unclaimedfunds.ohio.gov.
Wagner says searching is quick, free, and could provide a financial boost for families.
The Division is still experiencing a historically high volume of claims due to increased public interest and media coverage surrounding unclaimed funds, especially after state lawmakers approved using $600 million from the state’s Unclaimed Funds Trust to support construction of the new Browns Stadium.
