Mary Alice Reporting –

A new law that will impact salaried employees goes into effect July 1st.

This is a federal overtime law that raises the level of salary for salaried employees to $44,888. If a business cannot raise to that amount, the employee must be put on an hourly wage and paid time and a half for anytime worked over 40 hours in the work week.

This level will got up to $58,656 on January 1, 2025.

There are some stipulations, noted by the Department of Labor, in which an organization that does not “sell” $500,000 annually or does not engage in interstate commerce may be one of the few that would not follow the rule.

The change also states that starting July 1, 2027, the earnings thresholds will be updated every three years to keep pace with changes in worker salaries.
