School starts in a little more than a month, and a 50-year-old Tuscarawas County program aims to make sure all children are dressed and ready to go.
Co-Chair Brenda Jenkins says Dress-a- Child has been around since the 1970s providing back-to-school outfits for kids whose families meet the federal poverty guidelines, which varies based on family size. Jenkins adds the rewarding part is seeing the children’s reactions to their new threads.
Families who qualify must sign up this month to participate. Registration is in person on the next two Tuesdays at two locations – Grace Lutheran Church in Dover and First Presbyterian Church in Uhrichsville. It’s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 15th and July 22nd. There is an additional registration location on Tuesday, July 22nd, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia.
Families must bring I.D. and proof of income to registration. July 15th and July 22nd will be the only dates to apply in person. They’ll pick up their new clothes on August 12th.
