Dover and New Philadelphia firefighters keep practicing so they can respond to emergencies in all types of water rescue situations.
Dover fire captain Brooks Ross says their latest joint session involved training in the Tuscarawas River under the Wooster Avenue Bridge with about eight divers and seven other firefighters there for shore support and rope work.
He says they always strive to be better prepared.
“it’s one of those things we have actual calls. We average, like, two a year whether it’s a drowning or vehicle in the water that we recover, so year we try to keep up cause it’s a pretty dangerous environment, so we try to train pretty regularly.”
Ross says they try to conduct water training sessions once a month in different locations such as at Atwood and Tappan lakes and in area ponds and creeks.
