Dover firefighters responded to a kitchen fire Wednesday evening at a home in the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue.
Fire Captain Mike Mossor says crews were sent around 5:30 p.m. for a reported odor of smoke. When they arrived, they found a moderate amount of smoke and fire in a kitchen wall next to the stovetop.
Mossor says repeated heating and cooling from cooking appears to have caused material near the stove to ignite, with the fire spreading into the wall.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze using a minimal amount of water and ventilated the home to remove the smoke.
Damage was estimated at about 2,500 dollars, including 2,000 dollars in property damage and 500 dollars to the contents. The damage was primarily limited to the wall and stove area.
No injuries were reported. The residents left the home for the night, and Mossor says the kitchen was taken out of service, but the overall damage was not extensive.
