Former Uhrichsville Mayor Mark Haney has pleaded guilty to reduced charges after he was accused of theft in office and tampering with records last year.
Attorneys reached a plea agreement Monday where Haney pleaded guilty to theft, a fifth-degree felony, and soliciting improper compensation, a misdemeanor.
Judge Michael Ernest will sentence Haney on May 18th.
Prosecutors dropped two more significant charges – third-degree felony tampering with records – and reduced a theft in office charge to just theft. Had he been convicted of felony theft in office, Haney would have been banned from ever holding public office.
Meanwhile, the soliciting improper compensation conviction carries a 7-year ban. The state auditor’s office in July of last year announced the Grand Jury Indictment against Haney.
The Auditor’s Special Investigations Unit claimed Haney as mayor improperly received reimbursements for meals, mileage, and other purchases and had used city credit cards on personal purchases.
The felony level indicates the total value of the items or services stolen was between 1 thousand and 75-hundred dollars.
A representative for Haney’s attorney said they have no comment.
