Gwen Rummell Reporting –

The Fort Laurens Museum is partnering with the Brigade of the American Revolution to provide a free event in commemoration of the 245th anniversary of the Continental Army’s arrival.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 18th from 10 am to 3 pm. On November 18th, 1778, General Lachlan McIntosh led his Continental Army of 1,200 men across the Tuscarawas River to establish a fort on its western bank.

The fort was named after Henry Laurens, the president of the colonial Continental Congress, and was part of a strategy to attack the British at Fort Detroit during the American Revolution.

To celebrate the historic achievement, reenactors will dress in period clothing and march onto the site. Visitors will have the opportunity to greet the soldiers and watch historical demonstrations.

The Fort Laurens gift shop and the museum will be open during the event.
