Gwen Rummell Reporting –

In honor of Minority Health Month, Cleveland Clinic Mercy Cancer Center is providing free cancer screenings and preventative health services.

The theme for April 2024 is “Active and Healthy” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Prevention and acting quickly when it comes to cancer is key, says Preventative and New Diagnosis Care Coordinator Maggie Beans.

“This event is a quadruple screening event. We’re offering free breast, oral, skin, and prostate screens at Cleveland Clinic Mercy in our Cancer Center. You can expect to have a skin examination, oral examination, mammograms, and prostate screenings.”

The recommended ages for screenings are 45 years and older for prostate, 40 and older for breast, and 18 and older for oral and skin. The skin screening is a spot examination rather than a full skin examination.

The event will include information on preventative measures and local organizations providing community resources. Attendees are also welcome to light refreshments and a prize raffle.

The event will be held Tuesday, April 9th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Registration is required for all screenings by April 1st. Those not looking to receive a screening do not have to register.
