Nick McWilliams reporting – The Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County are seeking donations for their operations during the Spring Annual Campaign.

The shelter, which is currently still searching for a new home due to the costly needed repairs to its current building and a lack of space, was formed in 2005, serving thousands of residents needing a place to stay or a warm meal.

The operation has been dependent on donations to keep doors open, with care and housing provided year round.

During a previous New Phila council meeting, FOTH Board President and Pastor Joe Svancara said that in the ongoing back-and-forth related to trying to locate a new shelter home, he wants to focus on the positives they bring for those in need.

“Our organization truly is an organization, not only dedicated to helping those in need in our community, but we are also an organization that seeks to make partnerships, seeks to make alliances, seeks to work with everybody to solve a common problem. Including the city of New Philadelphia, and everyone who comprises its government.”

The FOTH also provides housing assistance and referrals, support meetings for individuals struggling with addiction, transportation, and an emergency food pantry.

During the campaign, donations can be made online at www.fothtusc.org by clicking the Donate Now button, or by mailing contributions to Friends of the Homeless with the subject line Annual Campaign at 211 East High Avenue, P.O. Box 466, New Philadelphia.
