The “For the Love of the Game” committee is working on completing phase one of revitalizing the baseball field at Tuscora Park.

The goal is to renovate the field into a state-of-the-art baseball complex and so far, the committee raised over $250,000 through grants and community contributions, which has placed a new scoreboard, black vinyl outfield fencing, and a windscreen in center field.

Organizer Kelly Ricklic says they are now raising funds to re-turf the infield.

“It’s $350,000 for the turf and another, approximately, $150,000 for the backstop, dugouts, and the backscreen that we put up.”

“Turf to Play” fundraiser allows contributors to sponsor a section of turf, with names to be displayed on a picture with corresponding coordinates.

“We gridded off the infield into 2ft by 2ft squares and are selling sponsorships for those squares. There’s different prices for different parts of it like home plate, the bases, and there’s a logo.”

Those interested in sponsoring can call Ricklic at 330.364.2771 or Tom Farbizo at 330.340.7591 or email turftuscoradiamond@gmail.com.

Once phase one is complete, Ricklic notes that other phases, as funding is available by donations or grants, include a seating area, press box, concession stand, upgraded lighting, and outfield turf.
