Gail Kathleen Burket, age 85, of Dover, died on Sunday, September 25, 2022, in Hennis Care Centre of Dover, after a period of declining health.
Born in Bergenfield, New Jersey on April 9, 1937, Gail was the daughter of the late Gerald K. and Grace (Smith) McInerney.
Gail graduated from Kent State University with a Master of Education degree. She taught elementary school for many years. When she was ten years old her passion for training dogs began. She has trained thousands of dogs through the years and became an accomplished showman as well. Her love for animals continued when she opened Oakshadows Kennel Plus in August of 1996.
She is survived by her husband Glenn Burket, who she married on August 19, 1962; her children, Robert Michael Burket, Mark John Burket, and Laurie (David) Pemberton; grandchildren, Nikki Cottrell, Christopher (Nadia) Burket, Katie (Jarrid) Vaughn, and Jaqueline Hope Freedman; great-grandchildren, Lucas Cottrell, Collin Vaughn, and Sloane Vaughn; and numerous 4-legged friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 1 to 3:00 p.m. A service celebrating Gail’s life will be held in the funeral home beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Ron Onslow officiating.
