“Together Again”

Gale P. Huffman, 87, of Strasburg, passed away peacefully at Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

Born in the sewing room of the family residence at Strasburg on July 27, 1936, he was the son of the late James “Ivan” and Olga G. (Oplinger) Huffman. After completing his formal education at Strasburg High School, he began a long career in construction working for Red Malcuit Inc. at Strasburg and ultimately retired as a Supervisor with Beaver Excavating. 

In his spare time Gale loved golfing in area leagues with his friends and working in his gardens raising vegetables and flowers. Especially Dahlias. A longtime member of the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg, he was also a member of Shadyrest Army-Navy, Bolivar Army-Navy and New Philadelphia BPOE #510. 

Gale married his wife, Carol Jean (Galanga) Huffman on December 1, 1956, and together they raised four children. In retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Florida with their good friends Andy and Annie Selogy.

He will be deeply missed by his family including his children, Fran (Don) Gerber of Strasburg, Elaine Stollar of Barboursville, WV, Michelle Huffman of Strasburg, and Steve Huffman of Sherrodsville; his grandchildren, Tina Loibl, Sarah (Chris) Haddox, Rachael (Nikolaus) Schuhbeck, Maxie and Abe, Rita, and Annie Huffman; and his great-grandchildren, Zane (Ashley) Loibl and Grant, Megan, Clara, and Elise Haddox, numerous nieces and nephews and his “adopted son” Rod Cadle

In addition to his parents and his wife, Gale was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Park; his brother, Vance Huffman and a son-in-law, Richard Stollar.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Gale’s life will be held in the funeral home beginning at 3 p.m. with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Gale’s memory may be directed to St. John United Church of Christ, 516 N. Wooster Ave., Strasburg, OH 44680.

The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Hennis Care Center at Bolivar for their love, care and compassion during Gale’s stay.
