Gary Paul Frutig, 74, of Sugarcreek passed away at Oak Pointe Nursing Home on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, following a period of declining health.
Born March 18, 1948, in Dover, he was the son of Alfred F. “Fritz” and Doris (Arnold) Frutig Gary married the former Karen Limbacher on December 29, 1968.
He was a 1966 graduate of Garaway High School, served four years during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy, and worked at Swiss Auto Mart in Sugarcreek and Fleming Foods in Navarre as a mechanic. Gary was a member of the Teamsters and Union Hill United Methodist Church in Sugarcreek. He enjoyed quarter-mile drag racing in Magnolia and garden tractor pulling events.
In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by his children Debra (Greg) VanFossen of Tuscarawas, Dawn (Nick) Speedy of Conway, SC, and Clayton (Jordan) Chavez of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren; a sister LuAnn Zahner of Dundee and brother Michael (Judy) Frutig of Dover.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Ron Zahner.
Services for Gary will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Calkins officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Cemetery with military honors being performed by the Sugarcreek American Legion Post #494. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 4 to 6 pm.
