Gene R. Harshey, Jr., 54, of Uhrichsville passed away on April 17, 2023, at Community Hospice Truman House. Born January 31, 1969, in Massillon, Ohio, he was a son of the late Gene Richard Harshey, Sr. and Diana Louise (Creager) Harshey who survives him.
Gene was known as the family protector and loved his family with all of his heart. He was an avid fisherman and mushroom hunter and collected baseball cards and Johnny Cash memorabilia, as an avid fan of “The Man in Black” who especially loved the Standing Ovation at the Improv. He enjoyed sitting on the creekbank – fishing with his brother, Ralph – at the Uhrichsville dam. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch watching his Koi fish pond that he had built himself, as well as gardening and planting flowers for his companion, Lisa, to enjoy.
In addition to his mother, Diana, he is survived by his longtime, loving companion, Lisa Brooks; sons, Corey, Chase, and Chance Harshey whom he loved very much; stepsons, Nathan, Zane, and Jake whom he also loved very much and with whom he was close; grandson, Ace Harshey; his loving brothers, Ralph (Tara) Harshey and Troy (companion, Leisa) Harshey; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, James, and Bill Harshey, as well as his father, Gene. He will also be missed by his best friends, Heath and Mike, as well as his beloved dogs whom he always called his babies, Dexter, Zander, Raven, Daisy, and Ike.
Gene cared deeply about all his family and loved his hometown. He never wanted to move away from it and wanted to be near his family. He was dedicated to his parents and was always a good and loving son. A hard worker, he started at the age of 14 with after school jobs so that he could save his money to by his first Moped. He held many good jobs over the years, but Diversified Honing was his favorite! Gene was a good man, and he never met a stranger. He had a good heart and would help anyone who needed it. He always said he loved his three sons dearly but wanted them “NOT to do what I do, only DO as I say!”. Gene had a lot of good friends and some not so good, but he helped them anyway.
In keeping with Gene’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
