George A. Smitley 71, of Bolivar, died Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia after an extended illness. Born October 1, 1950, in Dover, he was a son of the late George and Bessie (Horner) Smitley.
He retired in 2013 from the Timken Company in Canton after 36 years. He was a member of Zoar United Church of Christ and the Bolivar Army Navy Club in Bolivar. George enjoyed working in his yard and being outdoors and was always willing to help his neighbors. He was also an avid Steelers fan.
He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Pope, whom he married on January 29, 1977. Also survived by his daughter Linda Smitley of Bolivar; 3 grandchildren Zoey, Dax, and Alexis, and a great-grandson Jameson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Trisha Pope and two brothers Johnny and Jerry Smitley.
