George Creal “Bub” Haskins, 74, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, after a lengthy illness. Born July 24, 1948, in Dennison, he was the youngest child of the late George Stewart and Bessie Mae (Gates) Haskins.
George grew up attending the First Presbyterian Church in Dennison and was a member of Claymont High School’s first graduating class in 1966, having attended Dennison High School until his senior year. He then proudly enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving on destroyers based in Newport, Rhode Island from 1966 to 1972, including duty in the Cold War Black Sea in December of 1968 and Viet Nam in July of 1972. He then served in the naval Air Reserve from 1978 to 1980.
He was an electronic technician on Radar systems in the Navy and later worked 15 years on electro-optical-mechanical systems at CAI Division of Recon/Optical Inc in Barrington, Illinois, and in international field service, as well as in digital panel meters for Digitec in Cambridge, Ohio. He was also employed for 17 years by Robin Industries in Berlin, Ohio, and was an active part-time employee with Hitchcock Sound Co., Summer Showcase, First Town Days, and Park Place Teen Center in his retirement years. He was proud that he had traveled overseas by ship and aircraft – as part of his employment – to Europe five times and to Southeast Asia twice.
On May 17, 1969, George married the former Dianne Kay Waldbeesser with whom he enjoyed nearly 35 years of marriage until her passing on January 18, 2004. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy Lou Conway, Margurite Ruth Arbuckle, and Helen Louise Whitman Borland, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
According to George’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service, and he will be buried at sea by the U. S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity in support of veterans.
