George E. Abel Sr., age 75, of Leesville, Ohio, died Saturday morning, October 22, 2022, in his son’s Dellroy residence following a long illness.
He was born May 21, 1947, in Dover, Ohio, and was the son of the late James E. and Laura J. (Harshey) Abel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother William Abel and a sister Ruby Bake.
George was a 1965 graduate of Conotton Valley High School and was a long-time resident of “The Circle” in Leesville. He participated in bowling leagues for many years at both Alpa Lanes in Uhrichsville and Atwood Lanes in Dellroy. He was a former member of the Sherrodsville Lions Club and the Conotton Valley Senior Citizens. For years, he joined his friends on weekdays for lunch and a few friendly games of euchre at the former Senior Nutrition Site in Sherrodsville. A fixture in the village of Leesville, he provided notary services to the area for many years.
He is survived by his wife Sharon L. (Knight) Abel, a daughter Mrs. Sherry J. (Rick) Byrd of Tennessee, and two sons, George S. (Leeann) Abel of Dellroy, OH, and George E (Jessica Hart). Abel, Jr. of Uhrichsville, OH, three sisters Helen Harshey and Mary Snively, both of Uhrichsville, and Linda Kay Briggs of Highland, Texas, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Milo Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Leesville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
