George Yoder, 84, of Dover, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.
Born August 11, 1939, in Cleveland, George was the son of the late Howard Edward and Ruby Garnet (Newcomb) Yoder.
After graduating from Midvale High School in 1958, George married his high school sweetheart, the late Judith L. “Judy” Wright Yoder. George honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed at the Whiteman Air Force Base in the 351st Civil Engineering squadron. They returned to the Tuscarawas Valley in 1965, living on Judy’s family’s farm in Hummel Valley until they moved to Dover in 2003.
Professionally, George worked with UPS as a truck driver for 30 years prior to his retirement.
His faith was nurtured at the Broadway Global Methodist Church where he was an active member and a lay leader. George also had a passion for fishing, golfing, riding his Harley, restoring old tractors, woodworking, and enjoying cars.
George is survived by his children, Chris (wife, Julie) Yoder of Gahanna and Beth (husband, Scott) Miller of Dover; grandchildren, Jordan (companion, Jason Kochur) Miller and Grant (companion, Elizabeth Bolton) Miller, both of Dover; and great-granddaughter, Kieran Riggs.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in passing by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Rev. Harley Wheeler will lead his service beginning at 11 a.m. Cremation care will take place after the service with inurnment at Evergreen Burial Park at a later date.
