Gerald Carl “Jerry” Fitzgerald, age 75, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness.
Born August 20, 1947, in Dennison, O., Jerry is the son of the late DeLoyce and Nellie I. (Johnson) Fitzgerald.
Jerry was a high school graduate. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army, having served in Vietnam from August 20, 1967, to 1970. Jerry was employed at AmTrak Railroad as a welder until his retirement in 2007. He was a member of the GPAA Gold Prospecting and VFW New Philadelphia. Jerry enjoyed fishing and scuba diving.
On June 20, 2009, at Feed Springs Church in Uhrichsville, Jerry married Rose Baggott Fitzgerald, who survives of the home. Also surviving are their children Katy Fitzgerald of Colorado, Megan and Jason McElroy of California, Lisa and Ron Hartline of Leesville, Eddie and Ronda Baggott of New Philadelphia, Michael and Ramona Baggott of Mogadore and Ricky and Christine Baggott of Uniontown; a sister Sara Fitzgerald of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and his dog and best friend Charlie.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by a sister Rosann Fitzgerald Kohler.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with the Rev. Mark Unrue officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville, O.
Calling hours will be from 11 to 1, (two hours prior to services) on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the funeral home.
