Gerald “Jerry” Eldon Wilson, 85, of Dennison, Ohio, died at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio, on Wednesday, October 5, 2023, following a brief illness. He was born February 17, 1938, in Lima, Ohio to James and Margaret (Krebs) Wilson. He was the third of 14 siblings. On June 10, 1961, he married his college sweetheart, Marilyn McCarroll, with whom he enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her passing on December 26, 2018.
He is survived by one son, Steven (Linda) Wilson; three grandchildren, Gary Versluis, and Sam and Evan Wilson; 5 brothers and 2 sisters, George, Joseph (Judy), William (Glenda), Thomas (Rita), and Charles (Bonnie) Wilson, Sarah Denbow, and Sandra Dearth; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Laura Versluis; 4 brothers, Paul, John, David, and James Wilson; and 2 sisters, Carol Heil and Mary Kohli.
Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Spencerville, Ohio High School. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from Ohio University in 1961. He retired from Saginaw Division, Delphi Automotive (formerly General Motors) in 2000 after 36 years of service. He held many engineering positions in industrial engineering, plant engineering, and manufacturing engineering throughout his career at Saginaw Division in Saginaw, Michigan and Decatur, Alabama. After retiring in 2001, he and Marilyn moved back to her hometown of Dennison, Ohio.
Jerry was a member of First Methodist Church in Uhrichsville where he previously served on several administrative committees. He was a member and past president of the Dennison Rotary Club. He was also a member of the former Mystic Tie Lodge #194 F&AM, Dennison, where he served 3 terms as Worshipful Master; Salina-Pioneer Lodge #155 F&AM, Saginaw, MI, where he was also a past master; York Rite RAM Chapter #38, Decatur, AL; R&SM Council #81, Decatur, AL; Demolay Commandery #14, Decatur, AL; Alabama Priory #31, Knight of the York Cross of Honor. Jerry was an accomplished amateur photographer, and his photos won many awards.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia where he will be interred beside his beloved wife. Details for the service will be provided on this website as soon as they are confirmed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
