Tuscarawas County organizations, health care providers and law enforcement agencies are teaming up this month to get unused and potentially harmful medications out of homes’ medicine cabinets.
Every April, the local Empower Tusc organization works with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency for Drug Take Back Day, this year on April 26th.
Jeff Neidig chairs the Empower Tusc prescription drug committee.
“We want these medications, that are no longer needed, to be removed from homes so that they don’t get into the wrong hands whether it be youth or anybody else that have access to them.”
Unwanted medications can be dropped off on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 to 2 at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and Trinity Health System Twin City Medical Center.
However, if April 26th doesn’t work, there are two earlier opportunities to turn in unwanted prescription drugs thanks to the Dennison Rotary and Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy will be at the Dennison Rotary Health Check Up events on Saturday mornings April 5th and 12th at Claymont Eastport Elementary.
The Dennison Rotary on the next two Saturdays will offer a variety of low-cost health screenings, including $50 basic profile screenings. Make appointments at dennisonrotary.com. Walk-in registrations are welcome, but they are a little more expensive. The
Dennison Rotary Health Check Up is April 5th and 12th from 5:15 to 10:30 a.m. at Claymont Eastport Elementary School.
