Gilbert V. “Red” Anderson, 95, of Midvale, passed away peacefully on September 7 2024 in Divine Nursing and Rehabilitation at New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health.
Born on April 2, 1929, in Buckhannon, West Virginia, Red was the son of the late Noah L. and Bertha (Claypole) Anderson and lived a life that exemplified simplicity and dedication.
For 35 years, Red devoted himself to his career as a maintenance worker for W.R. Grace & Company in Alliance. His commitment to his work was a testament to his character—a reflection of the values he held dear throughout his life. He was a simple man, known for his humility and a steadfast work ethic.
In his personal life, Red found joy in the simple pleasures. He had a profound passion for working on Volkswagen Beetles, a hobby that reflected his hands-on nature and ingenuity. Additionally, Red enjoyed pitching horseshoes, a pastime that brought him happiness and camaraderie with his friends.
Red is survived by his son, Charles (Shari) Anderson of Louisville and his daughter, Jo Ann Gleckler of Midvale; two step-sons, Roger Bandy, Sr. of Damascus and Duane Bandy, Jr. of North Benton; 8 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Eberling) Andreson in 1999; a step-daughter, Bonnie Greenwalt and step-son, Dennis Bandy.
In keeping with Red’s wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A private burial will take place at a later date, in West Virginia.
