Grant Benjamin Haney, 15, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 8, 2024. Though his time with us was short, Grant lived a life filled with joy, passion, and an unwavering spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Born on September 3, 2008, in Dover, Ohio with Cystic Fibrosis, Grant faced challenges that many of us can hardly imagine. Yet, despite the burdens of his illness, he never allowed it to define him. Instead, his mother taught him to embrace his daily treatments with a fervor and optimism that inspired everyone around him. His courage and resilience were a testament to his extraordinary character.

Grant found immense happiness in the great outdoors, where he cherished every moment spent fishing, hunting, and trap shooting with his dad. These adventures were not just hobbies; they were treasured experiences that forged an unbreakable bond between father and son. Whether it was the thrill of reeling in a big catch, the quiet patience of waiting in a hunting blind, or the precise focus required in trap shooting, Grant approached each activity with enthusiasm and skill. These moments in nature brought him peace and joy, allowing him to connect with the beauty of the world around him. In the past several years, Grant also enjoyed competing in state and national trap shooting events with the Zoar Youth Trap Team.

Grant gave his life to the Lord on April 25, 2021, and was baptized as a testament to his faith. He was a member of the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church in Gnadenhutten, Ohio. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with hope even in the most challenging times.

In school, Grant was known for his dedication and determination. He never wavered in his pursuit of knowledge and personal growth by asking thought-provoking questions. His classmates and teachers admired his perseverance and the genuine kindness and care he showed to everyone he met. Grant was looking forward to joining his classmates as a sophomore at Claymont High School where he represented his school on the golf team.

Grant is survived by his adoring parents, Clint and Melissa Haney, of Uhrichsville; his devoted grandparents, Linda Shaw of Gnadenhutten and Rick and Dorothy Haney of Uhrichsville; his great-grandfathers, Benjamin Haney and George Slocum; his loving aunts and uncles, Brett and Jenny Shaw of Wainwright, Ohio, Matt and Tiffany Shaw and Tony and Kim Hunter of Bolivar, Ohio, and Richard and Alicia Millard of Cleveland, Ohio; his cousins, Kyle Johnson, Olivia Shaw, Allison (Christian Engle) Shaw, Clay Shaw, Sophia Shaw, Luca Hunter, Cora and Maverick Johnson, and Emmett and Ellie Engle; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts, including his great-aunt, Dorothy Applegarth, who had been his longtime, devoted babysitter. Grant was preceded in death by and has been reunited in heaven with his maternal grandfather, Richard Shaw; his paternal grandmother, Susan Haney; and his beloved dog, Piper.

Though our hearts are broken, we will always cherish Grant’s beautiful life and the countless memories of the wonderful times we shared with our precious Grant. He taught us the true meaning of strength, courage, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us to cherish each day and to face life’s challenges with the same unwavering spirit that he did.
